Bridging Gaps - Creating a Comprehensive College Recruitment Plan
Zachary Brown, College of Agriculture, Purdue University
Andrea Lutz, Purdue College of Agriculture

Recruitment at the college level plays an essential role in increasing yield. However, college-level recruitment efforts can be siloed - individuals recruiting for specific departments, majors, or programs. Siloing of efforts leads to untapped resources, misrepresentation of college opportunities, and a lack of strategic action. Using a collaborative college recruitment structure provides the opportunity to develop a unified recruitment plan that creates consistency in messaging and potentially increases college recruitment yield. Purdue University’s College of Agriculture has adopted such a plan and may be an example of success. Over the past academic year, Purdue Agriculture applications have increased by 21%, and the yield rate increased by 2%.

Collaborating With Your Departmental “A-Team”
Mary Buschette, Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations, University of Minnesota
Echo Martin, Annual Giving and Operations Manager, University of Minnesota
Sara Jensen, Undergraduate Program Coordinator, University of Minnesota

Since 2018, staff members of the Collegiate Advancement Team (alumni, communications & development) have been meeting regularly (monthly to quarterly) with leadership from each of the 12 departments to discuss strategies to support alumni engagement, communications resources and fundraising efforts. In addition, monthly college-wide “A-Team” or Advancement offer an opportunity to share updates and best practices, discuss current issues and learn from guest speakers on specific content areas. Learn how this effort has increased the sense of community within the college. We look forward to not only sharing our experiences, but learning from similar experiences at other universities.
