ADVANCEMENT AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT WORKING TOGETHER?!?! CREATING A 2020 VISION FOR A MODERN CAREER DEVELOPMENT OFFICE THAT SUPPORTS COLLEGE ADVANCEMENT GOALS
Adam Cahill, Career Development and Communication Manager, The Ohio State University

Have you ever considered your college career development staff as part of your development (advancement) team? Why Not?!?! We all know that happy and engaged students turn into happy and engaged alumni who turn into happy and engaged donors. Ok, I get it, this might be a stretch, but picture this…include the career team as part of your strategic plan and comprehensive campaign, sit back, and watch the compound interest grow through their efforts of investment in the career development of students. Graduates who are more career ready = higher employment rates = higher starting salaries = more money to potentially donate to the College.

WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER: REPURPOSING CONTENT
Abbey Miller, Communications Manager, Michigan State University; Jamie Wilson, Communications Manager, Michigan State University Extension

In today's work climate, we all have a million things to do and not enough time to do it. When you do get something checked off that ole’ to-do list, how can you make the most of your content and ensure it gets the mileage it deserves? Repurpose and reuse! By working more strategically and collaboratively, Michigan State University communicators have been able to push the same piece of content out to multiple audiences; alumni, donors, key stakeholders, volunteers, parents and the general public; using various platforms. Ultimately, communicators get more eyes on the same information and more time for additional efforts.

MSU ALUMNI & MSU EXTENSION: THE POWER OF PARTNERSHIP
Pamela Jones, Director of Alumni Engagement, Michigan State University; Joanne Davidhizar, District Director, Michigan State University Extension

The MSU Alumni Association is working hard to re-invigorate alumni clubs throughout the state. We are working to elevate the work that they do and that begins with reinforcing the incredible value they bring. In order to elevate their efforts, the MSU Alumni Office has been seeking partnership opportunities with MSU programs and initiatives. In our view, Alumni Club partnership with MSU Extension programming is a mutually beneficial relationship as it: Creates an educated alumni base to engage, volunteer, and advocate for MSU Extension. Provides alumni clubs with a uniquely focused opportunity to support MSU while positively impacting their community. Allows alums to connect with/to MSU in the community in which they live, work, play, raise families, etc.
